Heb Group Hosts Mental Health Awareness Talks in Leeds and Sheffield

At Heb Group, we believe that mental health is as important as physical health. Recognising the challenges that many people face in balancing work, personal life, and well being, we are committed to fostering a workplace culture where mental health is openly discussed and prioritised. As part of this commitment, on Wednesday, 11th December, we hosted Mental Health Awareness talks at two locations, led by Glyn Butcher, a guest speaker from the People Focused Group in Doncaster.

The first session took place at 11:00 am on one of our Mechanical & Electrical project sites in Leeds, with approximately 100 attendees. This was followed by a second session at 3:00 pm at our Sheffield office, where around 30 team members joined the talk. The turnout at both locations demonstrated the collective interest and importance of the topic within our teams.

Our Approach and Objectives

Our approach was centred around reducing the stigma associated with mental health by encouraging open discussions and providing employees with practical tools and insights. These sessions aimed to create a supportive and understanding workplace environment, ensuring everyone feels confident addressing mental health challenges.

Why Mental Health Awareness Matters

Mental health awareness is not just about recognising the signs of mental health challenges but also about breaking down stigma, encouraging conversations, and ensuring that support is accessible to everyone. In the workplace, this means creating an environment where employees feel safe to discuss their mental health without fear of judgment, fostering a sense of community and care.

During the talks, Glyn Butcher provided invaluable insights into identifying common mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, and depression, and offered practical advice on how to offer support to colleagues. These sessions also highlighted the importance of self care and understanding the resources available to seek help when needed.

Engaging and Interactive Sessions

The talks were designed to be more than just informative; they were interactive and engaging, with an open Q&A throughout. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts, and discuss their experiences. This format sparked meaningful conversations, helping to break down barriers and create a safe space for employees to talk about mental health openly.

One attendee noted that the opportunity to engage in a dialogue about mental health was both enlightening and empowering, as it helped them feel more confident about supporting colleagues and prioritising their own well being.

Leadership Commitment to Well Being

“At Heb Group, we recognise the importance of fostering a workplace where mental health is openly discussed and prioritised. These talks were a fantastic opportunity to not only raise awareness but also to spark meaningful conversations among our teams. Glyn’s sessions were both engaging and insightful, empowering our employees to feel more confident in recognising and addressing mental health challenges. Supporting the well-being of our people is a key part of our commitment to creating a positive and inclusive workplace culture”
