Established in Sheffield in 1923, Heb Group, formerly known as H.E. Barnes, was founded by a young electrician, Horace Barnes, with a vision for quality and service. Starting with small scale electrical work, Horace quickly established a reputation for reliability in Sheffield, setting the foundation for a company that has evolved to meet the diverse needs of its clients with a focus on Mechanical & Electrical services and Facilities Management.
1923-2024: A Legacy of Growth and Innovation

Horace Edward Barnes established the business.
1960
Electrical installation and maintenance of the largest Rolling Mills in Europe at Ponderosa.
2012
The Barnes family remained within the business until 2012 when international investor, and our Chairman Neil Bennett purchased the majority shareholding of HE Barnes.
2012
Nigel Pollard joined with target of financial growth and integration of a full turnkey M&E services offering.
2013
Paul Dobson appointed to assist in growth of Mechanical & Electrical division.
2016
Nigel Pollard becomes group Managing Director with the remit to grow and geographically expand the business.
2019
HE Barnes acquires Solutions 4 Cleaning.
2022
Nick Barker appointed as FM Director to strategically develop and grow a full turnkey hard & soft FM offering.
2023
HE Barnes celebrates its Centenary Year!
2024
Established new business units of Leeds and Liverpool in line with a major rebrand of the Heb Group.

Through the decades, H.E. Barnes adapted to the changing needs of its clients, growing from electrical services into mechanical installations and, eventually, comprehensive building services. By the 1970s, the company had secured a solid presence across Yorkshire, known for delivering dependable M&E services for industrial, commercial, and public sector clients. Steady growth allowed H.E. Barnes to extend its services, taking on larger projects and expanding its portfolio across the UK.
Becoming a Trusted National Provider
The early 2000s marked a pivotal phase for H.E. Barnes, as it broadened its offerings and geographical reach. With an expanding portfolio of projects in healthcare, education, commercial sectors, and more, the company became a trusted provider for complex M&E solutions nationwide. Our consistent ability to deliver high quality work on time and within budget helped us stand out, driving ongoing growth and recognition across multiple sectors.
2019: Completing the Full Service Offering
In 2019, we expanded our capabilities by acquiring Solutions 4 Cleaning, a premier commercial cleaning provider. This acquisition allowed Heb Group to offer complete building management services, including cleaning and hygiene solutions that complement our core M&E and Facilities Management services. With this addition, Heb Group now provides end to end solutions for buildings and facilities of any scale and complexity.
